Acupuncture CAN Save The World

Acupuncture CAN save the world.  Yes.  It’s a bold
statement, and one that, if you substituted the words “heal” or “cure” for “save”, would be
illegal in many states.  But let’s face
it, acupuncture has already saved a lot of us – from a hell of under-compensated acupuncture jobs and school loan debt,
from being bed-ridden, from sexual dysfunction, face disfigurement, speech
impediments, insomnia, social isolation, and god-awful pain that just won’t go

POCA is making a commitment to you, America and the
world.  We’ve set a goal of  50 million treatments per year for ourselves
and you.  We’re planning to open new
Community Acupuncture clinics in underserved areas, implementing a
micro-lending program for start-up clinics.
We’re working together to produce jobs in OUR/YOUR communities, maybe only
one or two jobs at a time, but jobs that generate a living wage and security for you or your neighbors.

What do we need from you?
Allow acupuncture to help save YOUR life – get a treatment at the
nearest community acupuncture clinic and feel the improvement in your quality
of life.  I’m not only talking about some
namby-pamby general overall feeling of wellness (though that’s a good thing in itself).  I’m talking about real, reproducible
results.  Here are some recent patient

“My hands used to wake me up at night in excruciating pain,
but I can sometimes sleep through the night with no pain now.”

“I’m going on a walking vacation and I was worried that I
would not make it through the entire trip.
My knees feel so much better every day that I am looking forward to going
on the trip.”

“I couldn’t even garden (or cook, or shop, or take care of
my kids, my parents, my spouse), but I can do a couple of hours at a time now,
and it’s getting better after every treatment.”

“My hands were so painful with arthritis that I couldn’t
crochet (or knit or paint or play with my grandkids), but I’m nearly pain-free.”

“The stroke left me feeling so weak, and I could barely look
at my face in the mirror, let alone go out to eat.  Now look at me, I’m more mobile than I have
been in years.”

“My lab results came back and my blood sugar (cholesterol,
triglycerides, hormones, T-cell counts) are much better.”

So you get the idea.
Does this mean that with one treatment you will be dancing a jig?  Probably not.
But with a course of treatments you might be dancing a waltz, or
planting your bulbs, or making things with your hands again.

So, friends and strangers, get yourself over to the
closest Community Acupuncture clinic and pay what you can afford for some

Conference Keynote: Breaking the Ceiling

The theme for this conference is “Breaking Barriers”. You know, there are so many barriers to break in acupuncture that it was really hard to choose which ones to talk about for this speech. But since I’ve spent so much time talking about classism as a barrier, I thought it might be fun to shift gears a little and talk about numbers.

Thank you!  I like to think of this piece, with all the testimonials, as allowing folks who have not had acupuncture to see the possibilities and take a chance with the needles they fear.
