Volunteer Shout-OUT

Happy New Year to Everyone.

It’s incredible to think that POCA Coop is only 4 years old. So much is happening this coming year, with many opportunities for POCA members to get involved. Below is a list of some of the highlights. Perhaps you’re thinking of doing some volunteering this year? Have a read and see if there’s a place you want to jump in.

There will be 2 POCA Fests this year.

The first one in North Scituate Rhode Island June 12,13, and 14, and the second one in the Marin Headlands just north of San Francisco in late September.

Looking for New England and Northeastern patients, punks and clinics to help out with the June POCA Fest. Send an email to volunteer@pocacoop.com if you’re interested.

Looking for No Cal, So Cal, Pacific NW folks to help out with the Bay Area POCA Fest. We’d love to see the POCA Tech Punklings at one or both of these events too! Private Message through the POCA website Skip Van Meter if you’re interested.

There are two Membership Drives will be happening one in May and one in October.

We’ll be kicking off the May Membership Drive with a POCA wide May Day celebration. All clinics are invited to participate in the POCA wide FREE DAY on May 1st to celebrate International Workers’ Day.

Patient and punk members can get involved at your local clinic in one or both Membership Drives by volunteering to be on hand to sign up or renew members.

One or two clinics are wanted to help head-up either or both membership drives. This involves creating and updating  media for clinics to use for the drive (things like posters, fliers, scripts, etc.) Prep for each drive happens a month or two before each drive.  Send and email to membership@pocacoop.com if you’re interested.

The Annual POCA LOC Survey will be happening once again.

If you’re a geek for data and numbers and want to help out with this contact Skip through the POCA website via this link: Skip Van Meter. This project takes place over a 3 or 4 month period, though you won’t have to work on it everyday. It involves setting up the survey, collecting data, bugging people to submit their data, and then collating the data once it’s all collected. Computer skillz are a must.

POCA Board of Directors Election happens each May. Volunteers needed for the nomination and election committee. This is a 4-6 week project. volunteer@pocacoop.com

I've always thought that I would live to be 100 years old and now that I have an actual idea of what it might be like to inhabit this body for a century I want to be damn sure that Community Acupuncture is around to help me through my days and in the end, on my way. In the meantime, I am passionate about getting shit done, and also having fun.

Conference Keynote: Breaking the Ceiling

The theme for this conference is “Breaking Barriers”. You know, there are so many barriers to break in acupuncture that it was really hard to choose which ones to talk about for this speech. But since I’ve spent so much time talking about classism as a barrier, I thought it might be fun to shift gears a little and talk about numbers.
