Screw You, WCA!

OK, I am, like, sooooo tired of you WCA people running around here and acting like a big bunch of know-it-alls. It makes me sick! “Oh, we’re WCA. I’m Lisa and I’m Skip. We started community acupuncture. We have a staff of ten. We see 430 patients a week and gross over a quarter million a year. We’ve been doing this since Clinton was in office. We hunted moose with Sarah Palin and you didn’t!” Well, what do you know?! If I’ve learned anything since I opened my CA clinic three months ago, I’ve learned that there is more than one way to run a CA and you can’t tell me how to do it! It’s my life and you can’t tell me what to do! If I want to have five chairs and read aloud excerpts from my dogeared copy of The Secret while they’re trying to sleep, I’ll do it! It’s just like they taught us at school, acupuncture knowledge has evolved a lot over time and CA will continue to evolve as well…through ME! I am the evolution of CA. At school we learned how to approach a patient from a million different perspectives and the same can be done for CA. I don’t care if there isn’t one single example of a truly kick ass, self-sustaining practice that deviates from the WCA model. Why should that stop me from practicing CA the way I want to? And yeah, I’ve started smoking!

So stay out of my room and don’t read my diary! If I want to stay out all night I’m gonna and there’s nothing you can do to stop me! If you try, I’ll run so far away you’ll never see me again! Assholes!

The Zang Fool
Author: The Zang Fool

This is a satirical blog post by a practitioner that is serious in his attempts to both increase acupunctures accessibility to the public and challenge practitioners preconceived notions of what acupuncture is and how it functions in society. It may make you laugh, but that is just a means to an end. That end is thought and ultimately positive change. This is what all good satire does: prick, prod and provoke thought and positive change within a community.

Satire has long been a part of muckraking and this profession is teeming with muck. So, in the wake of the nonsense spewed from the foul anus of the Acupuncture-Industrial Complex come my musings on life, love and the proposed doctoral program.

Conference Keynote: Breaking the Ceiling

The theme for this conference is “Breaking Barriers”. You know, there are so many barriers to break in acupuncture that it was really hard to choose which ones to talk about for this speech. But since I’ve spent so much time talking about classism as a barrier, I thought it might be fun to shift gears a little and talk about numbers.

  1. Enough is enough!

It is easy to cut down leaders and it is harder to support them. I’ve noticed that your posts are getting increasingly sarcastic and critical and less funny. No one is telling you what to do, Skip and Lisa have presented a model to use that you can modify as you see fit, so what’s your problem?

  2. finally, i can appreciate

finally, i can appreciate what (i think) you are trying to say. though how you say it totally baffles me! finally, i am laughing at your post- it has taken me some time to get used to your particular style.

what i get from this post, and please don’t correct me if i’m wrong, is a reminder to forge my own path, to follow my own intuition, and to take risks- that’s how most great things get going!

i work in the office here at community acupuncture on cape cod and we are as unique as any other clinic out there and not more so. things are constantly in flux, change, flow, shift…to keep up with it, understand it and plan accordingly seems impossible. so, i let go and am carried and shaped by the current of this particular community acupuncture clinic.

this post helped me to remember not to get stuck in trying to do things ‘the right way’ and instead continue to challenge myself to imagine new possibilities for helping to make this clinic be successful.

something has really shifted in me from reading this post, my passion for what community acupuncture is actually offering to the community has been re-fired up!

    thank you.

    i really needed that.

  3. i think i get your point

ok- zang fool- you are trying with your humor to point out that WCA us the only KNOWN example of a very successful community acupuncture clinic and anyone who deviates is acting like a spoiled teenager

I stil do not agree that EVERYTHING Skip and Lisa says is gospel for every clinic

Innovation and growth is possible and please remember that you, Skip or Lisa cannnot possibly know what goes on around the differences–FYI I do not disrupt the other patients when I talk to the individuals- it is done in another room- the treatment room is quiet

  4. Yeah, I got it to.

Some of the smaller clinics are supporting their practitioners and showing possibilities for good income growth. Not everyone wants or can manage more than that. I’m basically throwing my hands up and saying “whatever” on this issue. People can decide for themselves to follow blindly or carefully consider advice and make their own choices. I happen to be quite happy with my clinic growth and will continue to make the choices that are right for me.

I wish posters wouldn’t swear on the public blog, it’s not artistically necessary.

  5. Don’t know about you but

    ZF had me at Screw.

Such a romantic I am. I heart ZF!

And now Linda is trying to entice Lupine by using a bar of soap as a sex toy! Hey Linda! Does that bar of soap require batteries to or is it a solar powered vibrator?

    Fuck yea!

  6. No violence please

Hey, I can handle the occasional swear word, or sexual innuendo, but violence crosses my line. Lighten up, there are children present.Smile

All true religions seek to gain access to that level of consciousness which is not ego-bound.</

  7. I was talking about the

I was talking about the children who belong to CAN….I’m one of them.

All true religions seek to gain access to that level of consciousness which is not ego-bound.</

  8. no advice policy?

wow, I was not aware there was one of those on this site. In fact it feels like there are a strict set of rules that allows one into the exclusive CAN club and if someone deviates they are kicked out of the club or told that they do not respect their leaders

gawd damn homer, it is okay to fight in the war room!!

  9. Jill, Don’t forget

The CAN club is not the same thing as the WCA club, the feedback I have gotten leads me to believe I am welcomed in the CAN club. You are welcomed also and no one will be kicking you out for speaking your mind. CAN needs people to feel free to speak their truth or it will become stagnant.
